I Beat the Skinny Rabbit!

You can beat the Skinny Rabbit and get back on a path towards greater relationships, purpose and fulfillment in life. That will only happen when we wake up and realize we’ve been conned. We need to take a step to move away from the Skinny Rabbit who has been running things. Three times in a row, I took back a guy who absolutely was a Skinny Rabbit. The first time he dropped me for someone else. The second time he broke up by saying, “I just have so much to do right now – we need to take a break.” (Even though I learned later he was dating someone else during our “break” time). And the third time, (I know I was dumb), he said he’d learned how much he appreciated me and wanted to be serious. It was spring and I was really lonely, so we started dating again. Which lasted all of about two months. Finally… that third time something snapped. While I didn’t know to call him a Skinny Rabbit then – that’s exactly what he was. Moving away from him was the first step towards getting my life headed in the good direction it’s going now…

I’ve got a Skinny Rabbit story. I’ve had my share of times when I’ve been chasing Skinny Rabbits, but I can think of one time he didn’t get me. My wife and I were invited by some good friends to an “investment” seminar with them. There were a number of couples, our age, who were investing in the “front end” of a beachfront development close to Rocky Pointe, Mexico. The potential looked awesome, and we knew several of the people in the room who were sharp, intelligent people. My wife and I have made a promise that we’ll never sign something big until we’ve slept and prayed about it. We left that night without signing anything, prayed about it, and we both felt there was something wrong, even as good as it looked. Thankfully, we didn’t invest anything. In fact, the development went bankrupt and is just a bunch of partially started buildings! Hundreds of people across the country lost money (some of them lots of money) by chasing a Skinny Rabbit. That commitment to put some time and prayer before a decision kept us from a huge mistake. We beat the Rabbit on that one!
