What in the World is a Skinny Rabbit?
You may not realize it, but hiding along your career path, lurking in that offer to “get rich quick,” or even disguised as that person who just has to be “the one” (even though you’ve been together three years and he or she still isn’t ready to “commit”) is a Skinny Rabbit. A Skinny Rabbit is anything (or anyone) who lures you away from a life of purpose, fulfillment and significance. Instead, the further you follow a Skinny Rabbit, the more you’re moving away from fullness of life, and towards isolation and life-long regret. ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS YOU CAN ASK YOURSELF NOW AND OFTEN IS: “IS THIS (RELATIONSHIP, WORK SETTING, OFFER, PROGRAM, ETC.) A SKINNY RABBIT?” It’s also an important question to teach your children to ask – and to share with your friends who you see chasing a Skinny Rabbit right now (even if they don’t see it). For even good things – like volunteering at your church, but without setting any boundaries – can look and feel great for a season, but can end up leading you into emotional, physical and even spiritual exhaustion.
